Frankfurt, Germany, 5 February 2024: Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center GmbH (HMETC), the Group’s research and development centre in Europe, has appointed Tyrone Johnson as its new Managing Director. Beginning the new role at the start of 2024, the promotion marks a natural progression from his contributions leading vehicle development for Genesis Motor Europe.

Tyrone initially joined the Group in August 2018 as the Head of Department, which then included responsibility for Genesis as Director of Vehicle Development in February 2021. Since then, Johnson has played a pivotal role in Genesis’ development in Europe, including his responsibility in the development and launch of GV60, Genesis’ first all-electric vehicle on the European market, as well as ensuring the recently launched G90 flagship was tailored to meet European tastes. Before joining the Group, Tyrone has worked at Ford Motor Company in a number of positions for more than 30 years and thus comes with extensive experience in the automotive industry, having excelled in various leadership roles over the past years.

Tyrone has repeatedly proven his efforts by contributing to global product development in Europe and raising the profile of HMETC: “I am deeply honoured and humbled by the trust and confidence bestowed upon me by the company. Seon Pyung Kim, Managing Director of Hyundai Motorsport, is enthusiastic about the collaboration, and will support Johnson in his new endeavour. In his role as HMETC’s Managing Director, Tyrone will lead the company in further strengthening its position in Europe, supporting the Group's goal of becoming a smart mobility solutions provider with a focus on zero-emission mobility. With his expertise and leadership, Johnson will play a strategic role as the link between HMETC and the Group in South Korea, contributing to the brand's success in Europe, shaping the future of transportation and contributing to the brand’s success in Europe.
