Barcelona, Spain, 23 October 2026: 6 hours, 360 minutes. 21,600 seconds. In racing, a single second makes the difference, every one of those seconds is shaped by adrenaline, endurance and performance. But what happens when you take 6 hours off the track and get into the city? With the right local perspective, 6 hours can reveal a whole new side of Barcelona. A city of endless possibilities, from a rich cultural heritage and vibrant, award-winning gastronomy to its creative energy; deciding where to start can often be the greatest challenge.
To mark the FIA WEC 6 Hours of Barcelona, we asked one of the people best placed to make every second count, Dani Juncadella, Barcelona-born Genesis Magma Racing driver, who has played an important role in the team’s debut FIA WEC season and the development of the GMR-001 Hypercar. Now confirmed to continue with the team for 2027, Dani takes 6 hours away from the track to share the places that make Barcelona home.
This is a guide to discover Barcelona in 6 hours. A curated selection of personal recommendations following our signature Genesis’ Son-nim hospitality philosophy. Consider this guide a collection of insider recommendations, shared by a local and offered in the same spirit as advice from a close friend. The kind of precious recommendations from that one friend who always knows the local places worth discovering. Thoughtfully selected, these tips offer a more authentic way to experience Barcelona, beyond the ordinary and into the raw heart of this fascinating city.
9:00. Dani, where would you start your day?
A good day starts with good energy, and that means a good breakfast. Here in Spain, we have a particular love for savoury breakfasts, and “pan con tomate” (bread with tomato) is a true morning favourite. Simple, comforting and totally local, it is hard to imagine a better way to start the day. For me, Mantegueries Pirenaiques, offers an authentic taste of Barcelona, rooted in tradition and local flavours.
On the other hand, racing demands more than performance behind the wheel. Staying fit and training regularly are an important part of the job. With that in mind, another of my favourite breakfast spots is Onyva Coffee Sant Gervasi. Alongside great coffee, its menu is ideal when you’re looking for something healthy and energising to set you up for the day.
10:30. With the morning off to a good start, what would be your first recommendation for discovering Barcelona?
As I mentioned, training and keeping fit are a big part of my routine as a professional driver, so I couldn’t put together a Barcelona guide without including somewhere to get active. My recommendation is Carretera de les Aigües. It’s perfect for a run or a walk, with incredible panoramic views over Barcelona. It’s also a real local spot, one of the best ways to see the city from a different perspective.
If, on the other hand, you’re drawn to a more cosmopolitan side of Barcelona, my recommendation is Barrio de Gracia. Once an independent town with a strong tradition of craftsmanship and industry, it became part of Barcelona at the end of the 19th century, so it has retained a character entirely of its own. The best way to experience it is simply to wander through its narrow streets, discovering small local shops, cafés and bars along the way.
13:00. In Spain, lunch is as much about the food as it is about the experience. Where would you take us for an authentic taste of Barcelona?
For us, food is a social affair. Lunches tend to be long, and the lunch never ends when the plates are empty. We have a tradition called “sobremesa”, that is the time spent around the table after a meal, simply talking and enjoying the company of family and friends. Sometimes it lasts so long that lunch can almost blend into dinner.
Sharing is also at the heart of Spanish food culture, and “tapas” are perhaps the best expression of that. Small dishes are placed at the centre of the table for everyone to share, so you can try a little of everything, or simply choose whatever catches your eye. One of my favourite places for tapas is Rabbit’s Bar.
If you’re looking for something more substantial, I’d recommend Restaurante Sense Pressa for its Mediterranean cuisine. There is always something familiar about it. It feels a little like stepping into your grandmother’s kitchen: comforting and made to be enjoyed around the table.
14:30. Given Spain's tradition of long lunches, some time to chill afterwards is always welcome, where would you recommend spending a relaxing afternoon afterwards?
On the track, every second demands high focus, energy and you segregate important amounts of adrenaline. Off the track, sometimes the best use of time is simply to slow down. So, for the final stop in this tour around Barcelona, I’d recommend Silom Spa. After a day spent discovering the city, a relaxing massage is the perfect excuse to pause, recharge and enjoy those final moments at a different pace.
15:00
6 hours, 360 minutes. 21,600 seconds. In Barcelona, those same 6 hours invite you to move at your own pace, discover something new and enjoy the moments in between.
Ultimately, it is not only how much time you have, but how you choose to spend it.
